HUMANE SOCIETY LOGO_edited.png

Each week we feature an adoptable animal from the Adams County Humane Society.  The goal of ACHS is to find loving, forever homes for every animal in our facility.  They will work with you to find the right match for each animal and your family.

Follow These Steps to Adopt

1. Talk about adopting a new pet with all members of your household to confirm that everyone is on board.

2. If you rent talk to your landlord to make sure you understand their pet policies. We will call them to verify before you can adopt.

3. Preview adoptable animals on our website.  Prepare questions to ask about the animals you want to meet.   Call us at 608-339-6700 to schedule a time to meet with the animals you are interested in.

4. Go to the Adams County Humane Society website and complete/submit an adoption application online.

Rowan and Flynn came to the shelter with their mama and four siblings when their owner's health failed. They are just like their cousins, Smith and Bowie.

These cuties are all spayed, microchipped, and have all their shots. The cost to adopt these kitties is $75 with a special buddy discount if you adopt either pair!

ali

Ali is a sweet miniature bull terrier who comes to ACHS from an incredibly loving home. Her former owner had to give her up for health reasons.

Ali's former owner has described Ali as loyal, dedicated, loving, and sweet. She has all of her shots, is spayed and is microchipped. The cost to adopt Ali is $250.

Meet Brucie, Robin and Nightwing, our three beautiful Batman kitty boys. Brucie, Robin and Nightwing came to us as strays with their mom, Ivy.

Brucie is black and white, Nightwing is gray and white, and Robin is all black. These adorable boys are four months old, have all their shots, are microchipped and ready to go to their forever homes.

The cost to adopt a kitten at Adams County Humane Society is just $75, but we do have buddy discounts if you adopt more than one.

garfield

We'd like to feature Garfield. He had been attacked by a dog and had been pretty badly injured. After several trips to the vet and time to recuperate, Garfield is really starting to come along. He loves to hang out in the cat room and sit by the window to watch the birds. He's just about ready to move on to his new forever home.

Garfield is about seven years old, microchipped, neutered and has all his shots. The cost to adopt Garfield is just $50. If you are interested in meeting Garfield, please go to our website and fill out an application.

For Whisker Wednesdays this week, we would like to feature more than one pet. We would like to introduce some of our kittens. This time of year, there are so many moms that come in with babies and some babies that come in without moms. We love them all but because there are so many, and many who need immediate medical care, there are other animals in need that we cannot help because we are out of room. So, we invite you to go to our website at www.adamscountyhumanesociety.org

Check out some of our beautiful kittens, as well as our awesome adult cats. All of our cats and kittens are fully vaccinated, have been microchipped and are spayed or neutered. The cost to adopt a kitten is just $75 and an adult cat is $50. Please go to our website to fill out an application today!

Dolly

Dolly is a spunky yellow lab mix. This beautiful girl is about 2 years old and came to ACHS as a stray on 4/26. In early May Dolly was adopted and left the shelter a healthy, happy girl to start her new life. Sadly, Dolly was returned to the shelter only ten days later because she had suffered a number of seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy. We are working with our vet to find the best medication and dosage for Dolly to have the healthiest and longest life possible.

Dolly is in foster care but needs a forever home as soon as possible. She comes to the shelter during the day and this is too stressful of an environment for Dolly.
This lovely lady will need a very special family. Dolly must have a quiet, peaceful home with someone who is home most of the time. She needs patience, understanding and commitment that goes above and beyond what most dogs need. Dolly's unconditional love, zest for life and joyful spirit will make every bit of this well worth it!

Dolly is super friendly, gets along with dogs and cats but especially loves people. She has all of her shots and is spayed. She loves to play and run so she would do best in a home with a fenced in yard.

Please contact us if you feel you are the person able to provide Dolly with what she needs and fully deserves. Call 608-339-6700 with questions. You can also fill out an application online and we will get back with you to schedule a meet and greet with her.

molly

Featuring our beautiful 2 1/2 year old female calico cat, Molly. Molly came to us as a stray last summer with a bunch of kittens. She had been found on someone's property and they brought her in. Well, as is often the case, the kittens were all adopted but our beautiful young adult cat Molly was not and has been here ever since.

Molly has been through some stuff that only she knows about. We don't know what all that is but we do know she is a bit shy. She does get special attention though and loves to sit by the window, cuddling with her favorite human and watching the birds outside. She will need some love and patience but she is a sweetie and she would make a great addition to someone's family..

Molly has all of her shots, is microchipped and spayed. Because of her timidness, it would be best for her to be in a calm environment with a family with older children or with adults only.

queenie

Meet Queenie. Queenie is a 7 year old small Pit Bull Terrier Mix who came to us when her owner died unexpectedly. After that, she went to live with friends, who could not keep her permanently, but fostered her as long as they could. Eventually she came to us here at the Adams County Humane Society where she is receiving love and care. She has been through a lot and is a little shy but is as sweet as she can be. She is starting to come out of her shell a bit. We are unsure how well she gets along with other dogs but she seems to be okay with them. She does have some food aggression though, so she needs to be fed away from other animals for sure. Other than that, she is a total sweetheart and a favorite of everyone here at the shelter.

Queenie has been to the vet and is spayed, has all her shots, and is microchipped. The cost to adopt Queenie is $250.

If you have room in your heart and home for Queenie and would like to meet her, please go to our website at https://buff.ly/3xDHxDn and fill out an application today. If approved, someone from our adoption team will call you to set up a meet and greet

Zara

Meet Zara. Zara is a sweet little gray and white Tabby gal who was brought in as a stray in January. She was found outside a gas station eating an old brat someone had thrown away.

This brave girl was quite frightened at first, but is now starting to come out of her protective shell. Zara needs a peaceful indoor only home and her new family must have the patience and kindness to allow her the time she needs to blossom into her true self. It is okay for her new family to have children over the age of 8 as long as they have been taught to give a cat their space.

Zara is 2 1/2 years old, spayed, microchipped, and has all her shots. The cost to adopt Zara is just $50. If you are able to give Zara the home life described above, please read our adoption requirements and then complete an online application. If you are approved, a member of our Adoption Team will contact you to come in and meet this beautiful soul.

June Bug

Meet June Bug. This sweet little gal is ready to find her furever home. June Bug is a timid little gal who needs a person with lots of patience and love. Once she trusts you, June Bug will soak up all the love and attention you have to give. She will provide unconditional love and companionship in return.

June Bug came to the shelter on January 3rd with several other cats because her owner had passed away. It was noticed she had a bit of a limp. The vet determined she has a genetic deformity that has caused both her back legs to be a little short. In addition, her right forelimb has a muscle contracture up at the biceps and the limb does not fully extend as far as the left. This is most likely an old injury, resulting in a limp. This doesn't keep June Bug from getting around though.

This beautiful gal is a survivor and deserves a quiet, indoor only home with no dogs or young children under the age of 8. Calm cats are probably okay.

June Bug is spayed, microchipped, and has all her shots. The cost to adopt June Bug is just $50.

If you have room in your heart and home for this beautiful, petite lady please complete an adoption application and if you are approved, an ACHS team member will contact you to set up a time for you two to meet!

alex

Meet Alex, a gorgeous 10 month old little female tortie who is making steady progress at coming out of her shell. She is a sweet gal who observes her surroundings with a quiet demeanor. Alex gets along fine with cats who are respectful.

The purrfect person for Alex will provide a calm environment and have plenty of patience and love to give. Alex may take a little time to trust and open up, but she is well worth the effort.

Alex is spayed and has all of her shots and is microchipped. If you are interested in giving Alex a furever home, please read our adoption requirements and complete an application on our website. If approved, a member of our our Adoption Team will contact you to schedule an appointment for you to meet Alex.

Daisy Mae

Are you in search of a running partner? Then Daisy Mae is the girl for you! Daisy is a beautiful, 3 year old black lab mix.

Poor Daisy Mae was surrendered at the end of April because her family was downsizing to live in a camper and didn't think she would fit in. All of this change was terrifying for Daisy, and she is still quite stressed by the shelter environment.

Sweet Daisy Mae has loads of energy and needs a family who will take her on daily walks and adventures. She is friendly and full of smiles, and is learning how to play fetch.  Daisy doesn't know her own strength, so she would do best in a family with older children.. She gets along with some dogs, but will most likely chase cats.

Daisy Mae is spayed, has all her shots, is microchipped and all ready to go to her new forever home. The cost to adopt Daisy Mae is $250. If you'd like to meet this gorgeous gal, please read our adoption requirements and fill out an application online. Our Adoption Team will review your application and contact you to set up an appointment to meet Daisy Mae if you are approved. Thank you!

princess

Meet Princess, a 6 month old Yorkshire Terrier mix who was rescued from a house with a lot of animals. Sweet Princess is a bit shy at first, but quickly warms up and is friendly and affectionate. She is energetic, gets along with other animals, and loves to play. She would make a good walking partner and companion for her new family.

Princess is spayed, has all her shots and is microchipped. The cost to adopt this beautiful puppy is $350.

If you are interested in meeting Princess, or any of our other wonderful dogs, please go to our website and read the ACHS requirements. You can complete an online adoption application here as well. Reed.jpg
Reed

Meet Reed, a 7 month old brown and black tabby kitty who is super loving and purrs in an instant! He is a very playful kitty who loves the wand toy. He gets along with everyone and just wants to hang out. He also likes dogs, especially if they're willing to play with him! He is a gorgeous fella and is at his kennel door the second he hears someone who might give him some attention.

Poor Reed was found abandoned in a shed with a whole bunch of other cats and was in pretty sad shape. He is now as healthy as can be. He is neutered, microchipped and has all his shots. The cost to adopt Reed is just $75. This tough - but oh so sweet - fella is ready to leave the past behind and settle into his own home with a family who treats him like a king. apache

Meet Apache. This gorgeous calico was quite shy upon arrival at the shelter, but has come a long way. Apache is very curious, loves to play with feathers, and gets along well with other cats.

Apache and her siblings were rescued by a kind lady when their mother was killed by a dog. Apache has watched all of her brothers and sisters get adopted, and doesn't understand why she is the only one left at the shelter.

Apache is 9 months old, has all of her shots , is spayed, and microchipped. The cost to adopt Apache is just $75. If you have room in your heart and home for this sweet little gal, please read our adoption requirements and complete an application on the Adams County Humane Society website.

thor.jpg
THOR

Thor is an 11 month old shepherd mix and was surrendered to the Sheriff by someone claiming to be his owner, but who was not. However, ACHS has not been able to reach the actual owner. He has been here for quite a long time and has not been claimed. He is ready to get out of here and go to his new forever home.

Thor has been super sweet but is full of energy and a bit rambunctious. He has shown no signs of aggression in the shelter. However, the shelter environment can be tough for some dogs. It can be very noisy and there's always something going on, which makes it hard for some dogs to handle. Thor will need a bit of training but he is still quite young and just needs a little time and patience to help him calm down and relax. A new environment will really help Thor to thrive.

Thor has all of his shots, is microchipped and neutered. The cost to adopt Thor is $250. If you are interested in meeting Thor, please fill out an application on the Adams County Humane Society website and a member of our team will contact you to set up an appointment.
