Pink says Billy Joel's “too good” for her to write with, but “we're gonna keep trying”

Larry Busacca/Getty Images for SiriusXMIf you’re a Pink fan, you know how much she loves and admires Billy Joel.  She says after more than 15 years of begging him to co-write with her, he finally agreed…but she admits she blew the opportunity.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Pink says she first met Billy at an event “15 or 16” years ago, and told him, “Hi, you don’t know me, but I’m Pink and I want you to write a song with me.” He replied, “I’m sorry, I can’t do that — I don’t write pop music anymore.”

Pink says she ran into him several times since then, and she kept on asking him, but he continued to say no.  Finally, she says, “We ran into him in the Bahamas at a piano bar. I bought a very good bottle of wine and sent him a glass. He came over and I said, “You gonna write that song with me?’ He said, ‘OK, I’ll try it.’”

So Pink says a few months ago, she went to Billy’s house in Palm Beach, Florida with her baby son Jameson and “tried to write a song.”  According to her, it didn’t go very well.

“The problem is he’s too good for me. I clammed up,” she admits. “But we’re gonna keep trying.”

“He goes, ‘Do me a favor: Go home, pick out the best poem you’ve ever written and send it to me, and I’ll make you a song,’” she adds. “I got home and was like, ‘All my poems are the worst pieces of trash I’ve ever seen in my life.’”

Pink’s new album Beautiful Trauma is out on Friday.  Maybe her next one will feature that elusive Billy Joel co-write.
